Built in 1680, The Red Lion Inn originally served as a farm and alehouse, gaining its first licence in 1722, when licensing became law.

Today it retains much of its original character including a 30ft deep well in the bar which was originally the water source for the brewhouse. In the 17th century beer was brewed on the premises before any of the major breweries were established.

The magnificent ancient oak beams and bare stone walls provide a comfortable and homely atmosphere in which to enjoy traditional ales and freshly cooked food.

Matteo and Alyson purchased The Red Lion in 2006 and their aim is to provide good quality pub food at reasonable prices. Fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible, are carefully cooked by Matteo himself and transformed into tasty, wholesome meals.

At The Red Lion you are also treated to the opportunity to savour the delights of Sardinian cuisine as Matteo brings a little of his home country to the Peak District.

So, sit back, relax and enjoy your meal!
